In March 2025, Red21 carried out a business trip to Brazil, accompanied by Inescop, the developer of Icad, and Defred, our local agent in Brazil, who organized all our activities. This trip turned out to be a key experience for strengthening our business relationships in the country. We explored the Brazilian market in depth, discovered new growth opportunities, and presented the latest developments of Icad, offering a fresh perspective on the technological possibilities our solution brings to the Brazilian market.

The trip began with our participation in FIMEC 2025, the most important international footwear trade fair in Brazil, held in Novo Hamburgo. During the three-day event, our team showcased the new Icad solutions, along with a refreshed brand and product image, marking the beginning of a new era in footwear creation. Attendees had the opportunity to experience firsthand how our solutions integrate new functions and tools specifically designed to meet the needs of footwear technicians. These tools not only ensure total precision and enhance efficiency, but also enable tasks that traditionally take much longer to be completed in just a few minutes. This created a strong impact on the audience and allowed us to expand our network and establish new collaborations.

After the trade fair, we continued our journey to Birigüi, in the state of São Paulo, an important footwear manufacturing hub, especially known for children’s footwear. This city is home to the factories and distribution centers of some of the most prominent brands in the Brazilian market, such as Klin and Pampili, companies we had the opportunity to visit. Both of these long-time users of our solutions shared how Icad has transformed their processes by optimizing workflows, reducing lead times, and improving design precision. These visits were a valuable opportunity to strengthen our business relationships and explore new ways to further enhance their operations through our Icad technology.

We also couldn’t miss the opportunity to visit the Senai São Paulo Center in Birigüi, one of the most important technical training institutions for the footwear sector in Brazil. On this occasion, our Executive Director, Antonio Miralles, together with Eduardo Calabuig, Director of Inescop, and our Brazilian agent, Sérgio Paulo Karg from Defred, delivered a conference organized by Sinbi (the Footwear Industry Union of Birigüi). The event highlighted how Icad is revolutionizing the way footwear companies manage their design and production processes.The conference not only served to present our solutions but also provided a valuable opportunity to hear firsthand about the challenges faced by local companies. Many were surprised to learn how Icad has replaced outdated systems, offering much more advanced and efficient technology, perfectly tailored to the needs of the sector.

This trip has been an enriching business experience that not only strengthened our presence in Brazil but also opened the door to new opportunities for expansion and collaboration.

This joint presence allowed us to present our Icad solutions by combining two key perspectives: Inescop’s expertise in software development, and Red21’s deep understanding of the industry, gained through direct contact with footwear companies. The presentation sparked significant interest among attendees, thanks to a clear and straightforward approach: showing live what Icad is truly capable of. Many companies pointed out a key difference, while others merely make promises about what their technology might do, Icad demonstrated in real time that its solutions already deliver. What others are still promising, Icad has fully implemented and up and running.

Visitors saw firsthand how Icad transforms ideas into functional 3D models quickly and accurately, delivering immediate results. This drew a constant stream of people to our booth, creating a dynamic space for interaction that led to numerous conversations with professionals who were impressed by the scope and effectiveness of our solutions.

In addition, our participation in Stride USA allowed us to build a valuable network of contacts with key companies interested in exploring new paths of collaboration. Overall, the outcome of our presence was overwhelmingly positive, both in terms of visibility and the recognition received from those who witnessed the software in action.

From the ICad INESCOP Solutions team we commissioned a study on environmental savings in the process of creating collections.

For this, the use of our software and the use of the traditional process were compared.

The conclusions we reached with this study are the following:

• Savings of 4.16 kg of CO2 for each physical sample. Which is equivalent to 11 trees per 100 samples.

• Reduction of 65.5 liters of water per sample.

• Elimination of 44 kg of waste in the landfill for every 100 physical samples.

Most current systems use basic OpenGL and non-physical materials defined using parameters such as “diffuse”, “specular”, “ambient” and “brightness”, and color textures, for visualization during the modeling process. When the 3D modeling is finalized, some have a rendering engine to obtain hyper-realistic images of the models. The materials, in addition to their basic parameters, incorporate all the structure of a render material, that is, physical characteristics following multilayer structures. In the ICad3D+ system it is possible to define these materials and the render scene, along with the camera, lighting and so on; with all this, high quality static images are obtained.

However, this structure has some drawbacks, as we do not have high quality dynamic 3D visualization, as we use basic OpenGL and non-physical materials in our modeling environment. In addition, the calculation of the renderings, although of high quality, requires a lot of processing power and time.

New version of Icad3D+ incorporates PBR Materials

Precisely to avoid these rendering problems, PBR (Physically Based Rendering) materials and HDR (High Dynamic Range) environment maps have emerged, where elements such as reflectivity, roughness, ambient occlusion and others take part to deliver a material that resembles real life properties.

Thanks to PBR materials it is possible to have dynamic changes in illumination and for materials to be shown as they are, without having to reconfigure them and without applying tricks. The emergence of PBR materials is a tremendous paradigm shift, and the PBR model is much faster than traditional static rendering, allowing real-time rendering.

PBR materials are not based solely on a photographic image, but are composed of different maps that define how the material reacts to light. Each of these maps defines a property, a different level of detail. The ones that have the most impact on the final result of the material are the maps of: color, normals, metallicity, roughness and opacity. There are other maps to define special characteristics, such as the environment/occlusion, displacement, etc. maps.

The new version ICad3D+ v2019 uses lighting based on HDR images and PBR materials, with a simple interface so that the user can control the scene, lighting and materials, and thus achieve a realistic 3D dynamic visualization in real time without waiting to calculate a static render for each desired view. Nowadays, the quality of the static images obtained with the rendering engine is higher than the dynamic representation with PBR materials, but the agility of this real-time preview is a great added value that in certain contexts can replace the rendering, thanks to its great time saving and a much more than acceptable realism.

Due to the large amount and variety of materials used each season for the design of a collection, it is necessary that the process of digitizing materials and their integration into CAD is fast and accurate to streamline the design process. INESCOP has developed a materials scanner directly connected to the Icad Evolve design system.

Thanks to this functionality integrated in ICad 3D+, you will be able to directly create a boot last from any previously flattened last.

By setting up the different parameters, you will be able to control all the widths, lengths, and measurements of the boot sections, to create a customized boot or bootie, with or without zipper.

The great advantage of this functionality is that, having previously flattened the last, the flattening of the boot is generated automatically, and it is not necessary to work with more processes to obtain its flattening.

Through the new Apply Gradient feature, you will be able to add to your components, whether created in ICad 3D+ or imported externally, any kind of texture, projecting it and wrapping it completely around the 3D object.

This not only allows you to apply solid materials, or different shades like the gradient in the example, but you can also apply other images with transparency such as PNG, to wrap your sole with any type of drawing or motif.
